Ivanka Trump has had the Midas touch when it comes to the world of business — and now she’s trying her luck in the universe of ready-to-wear fashion.
Soon enough, women throughout America will be able to sport Trump’s highbrow upper East Side esthetic, all at an affordable price point ranging from $50-$225.
Introducing the Ivanka Trump Collection at her fashion show debut held at Lord & Taylor Wednesday night, the heiress to Donald Trump’s empire looked fearless in a bold tangerine blouse and skinny white jeans — both from her collection — and poised to enter the mass market.
This is such a tremendous validation,” she said. “To have the great support of Lord & Taylor who believed in me from the onset. I really wanted to create a high quality product at affordable price points. The polish, the elegance is something that’s pragmatic and functional.”
The line includes 37 pieces that are for the working New York woman in every aspect of her city life. From day to night, the various looks include lightweight white trenches, printed blouses, striped t-shirts, tunics for beachwear, skin-tight frocks and pleated billowy skirts.
Accessories included bright high- to mid-heel pumps, to laser-cut boxy handbags in all sizes, beach sandals, wedges and practical loafers.
“I was really inspired by my own mother, who was my fashion icon growing up,” she said of Ivana Trump.
And it seems like other designers may have been an inspiration as well. Some looks, like a wrapped blouse, were reminiscent of Diane von Furstenberg. Others had some touches of Milly by Michelle Smith and her own upper East Side flair. Then there was a sheer dark polka-dotted frock that looked eerily similar to Stella McCartney from last spring. Not to mention a few prints that reminded us of Italian great, Emilio Pucci.
In the fashion world this is hardly referred to as “knocking off” — it’s simply “inspired by.” And fans of Trump can be rest assured they’ll certainly be taking an ample amount of inspiration from the line come spring.
